With GeneXus on board the train of efficiency, growth and customer satisfaction.
Ferrovalle is one of Mexico’s most important service companies in relation to rail terminals, interconnections and multimodal activity, with significant volumes of work and infrastructure.
The company is jointly owned by Kansas City Southern (Mexico), Ferromex, Ferrosur, and the federal government –by way of the Communications and Transportation Secretariat (“Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes” - SCT). It employs over 1,150 people who are distributed through the Mexico Valley and operates approximately 844 kilometers or railways, with a volume of operations rounding 60million tons of cargo yearly, ranging from grain and food to automobiles and a wide variety of products present at their operations ground and their yards for regular and intermodal cargo.
Challenge
Due to its continued growth and its complex operations, Ferrovalle required an optimized business management and automated processes to achieve high cost-benefit performance and improve its productivity, while strengthening its bonds with customers. Thanks to a GeneXus-based method and technological architecture, this railway company was able to develop and consolidate approximately 70% of its operational, administrative and financial systems, including its so-called Intermodal Logistics System (“Sistema Logístico Intermodal” - SLI), one of the most crucial for the company, and responsible for the management of intermodal logistics processes.
According to Ferrovalle’s IT Manager, Rubén Castillo, GeneXus’ learning curve is 35% of what is required by any other platform, and allows them to develop customized solutions for the company, based on their specific business requirements, apart from the possibility of quickly adapting to changes implied by the business in order to satisfy customer expectations, without depending on a single provider or a single technology platform.
Benefits
Now Ferrovalle has the possibility of offering customers online query services to monitor operations and the status of shipments in real time, in addition to access to financial information, transfer of data via EDI, and customer service. Likewise, they have reduced capturing time in the entry and exit of containers and tractors, and have also integrated the invoicing system and financial interfaces with their ERP system, in addition to having included business intelligence to their platform.
Other benefits obtained include the possibility of paperless work in certain areas (as part of a search for 100% paperless work in the company), speedier customer service through the web, and the standardization of time during the loading and unloading instances thanks to web alerts. This, in addition to numerous satisfied customers that become increasingly confident of Ferrovalle for their rail operations, all of which implies a growing business.
