SLSQ Hub: Safety and Technology on Australia’s Beaches with GeneXus
Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) leads aquatic rescue and safety activities in Queensland, Australia. With 58 clubs and over 34,000 volunteers, SLSQ patrols and protects 8,000 kilometers of coastline from Port Douglas to Rainbow Bay, preventing drownings and promoting safety through rescues, first aid training, and community education.
Using Globant Enterprise AI (formerly GeneXus Enterprise AI), SLSQ transformed and simplified the volunteer experience, allowing them easy access to the information and training they need. By centralizing access to shifts, records, and training in one place, SLSQ streamlined processes and created an environment where volunteers feel supported and motivated to continue contributing.
Here we explain how SLSQ leveraged the power of Globant Enterprise AI to strengthen its volunteer community and attract new members willing to join the mission of protecting Queensland’s beaches.
In addition, the system needed to streamline the process of handling awards and certifications, reducing the time it took to update and verify each member’s achievements. The platform also needed to facilitate selecting appropriate courses for each volunteer, helping them choose only those that matched their skill level and avoiding enrollment errors.
Another critical aspect was optimizing training and administrative staff tasks, enabling them to efficiently manage the courses and volunteer records. There were also technical challenges, as the new solution had to integrate seamlessly with a legacy application managed by the governing organization, maintaining consistency and functionality in the existing system. This technical integration was key to ensuring operational continuity and avoiding data duplications or conflicts.
Currently, the SLSQ Hub centralizes all the information members need. Through this platform, volunteers can check their membership status, awards earned, patrol shifts for the season, and completed patrol hours. They can also view available courses, keep their certifications updated, enroll in new LMS courses, and complete micro-courses—all from a single place.
Additionally, members can ask questions about aquatic rescue and receive answers based solely on SLSQ-approved standard operating policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and accuracy in all areas of lifesaving information.
Thanks to Globant Enterprise AI, members can ask questions about rescue procedures and receive quick, accurate answers based on SLSQ’s standard policies and procedures. This feature ensures that every response aligns with best safety practices, helping volunteers act confidently and knowledgeably in emergencies.
Since its launch, the SLSQ Hub has processed over 25,000 rescue awards, significantly supporting volunteer training and development.
Backed by GeneXus, SLSQ is enhancing its team's training and strengthening beach safety in Queensland, contributing to the mission of reducing preventable deaths in public waters to zero.

Here we explain how SLSQ leveraged the power of Globant Enterprise AI to strengthen its volunteer community and attract new members willing to join the mission of protecting Queensland’s beaches.
The problem
SLSQ's Learning Management System (LMS) had several limitations that hindered the experience for its members. The LMS did not allow volunteers to quickly find available courses or easily review the requirements for enrollment. Additionally, the system lacked a clear way for users to record their certifications and training achievements up-to-date. This lack of key features complicated the enrollment process. It made it more difficult for members to meet certification and ongoing training requirements, impacting the efficiency and satisfaction of volunteers, and ultimately, beach safety. The objective
SLSQ needed a solution to provide all volunteers with a clear, comprehensive view of their current organizational status. This included the ability to view membership status, rescue awards earned, and the requirements necessary to maintain these awards or achieve new ones. It was essential for volunteers to receive personalized course recommendations based on their current qualifications. The solution also needed to ensure that volunteers could only enroll in courses for which they met the prerequisites, avoiding unnecessary or unqualified enrollments. With these improvements, SLSQ aimed to enhance the training experience for its members and ensure a continuous, organized development of essential skills for beach safety. The Challenge
The proposed solution had to be user-friendly and accepted by a diverse community of volunteers, ranging from 12-year-olds to over 70, with varying levels of digital literacy. To achieve this, the platform needed to be intuitive and accessible, allowing users to navigate and find information easily, regardless of their technology experience. In addition, the system needed to streamline the process of handling awards and certifications, reducing the time it took to update and verify each member’s achievements. The solution
In collaboration with Cumulus Technologies, GeneXus’s official distributor in Australia, and leveraging the power of Globant Enterprise AI, SLSQ developed the "SLSQ Hub" application. From inception to implementation, the solution was built within three months. Throughout development, requirements and deliverables evolved in parallel, allowing for agile adjustments and continuous adaptations.Currently, the SLSQ Hub centralizes all the information members need. Through this platform, volunteers can check their membership status, awards earned, patrol shifts for the season, and completed patrol hours. The results
The SLSQ Hub has centralized and simplified the entire experience for its members, providing quick access to essential information and training. With this tool, volunteers can check their membership status and manage their rescue awards in real time, keeping them updated and meeting the renewal requirements. Additionally, the Hub provides detailed information on available courses, allowing members to enroll in new training and continuously improve their skills. Thanks to Globant Enterprise AI, members can ask questions about rescue procedures and receive quick, accurate answers based on SLSQ’s standard policies and procedures.
