ADO.NET as Access to Oracle

The DBMS access method that allowed an increase of up to 500% in the performance of GeneXus.NET Web applications is available for Oracle, and will also be released for DB2

The possibility of using ADO.NET as access method to DBMS -as an alternative to ODBC- was incorporated this year to the GeneXus .NET generator both in Windows (GUI) and Web applications.

This method to access the DBMS, which was already available for SQL Server, can now be used with Oracle and will also be released for DB2, announced Armin Bachmann, from ARTech's .NET support team.

The benefits of using 100% ".NET managed code" and the improved performance attained by access to the DBMS through ADO.NET have been verified by Credencial Salud S.A., which performed the first implementation of ADO.NET in Argentina.

GXportal users have also been able to verify the speed and efficiency attained with this access method in its version developed with GeneXus 8.0 for the Microsoft .NET platform.

Over 90% of GeneXus.NET applications with SQL Server have already adopted the ADO.NET access method in production successfully, said Bachmann. I have no doubt that applications that work with Oracle will also implement it soon, he added.

For applications generated with GeneXus for .NET this means higher stability, higher scalability and better performance. It also offers other advantages such as the use of cache of queries to the database, the generation of multi-tier Windows applications (Windows interface), and access to more application monitoring tools.
