ARTech, HP, Oracle and Tilsor Offer a Test Center

GRID LAB is a test and demonstration center that will enable software development companies to verify how it is possible to obtain important operational results and reduce costs while running their applications on HP and Oracle 10g platforms.

The GRID LAB presented in the framework of the XV GeneXus International Meeting in the capital of Uruguay, is intended to become a Demonstration and Test Center for the grid technologies introduced by Oracle in its 10g Data Base, together with the HP Servers of the Integrity line (with Intel Itanium 64 bit processors) and HP storage systems. The combination of these technologies will produce a substantial change in the technological market, enabling offering flexible, scalable, safe and better performing solutions at a much lower total ownership cost than are currently available.

"The laboratory is available both for business partners and clients, and offers the possibility of carrying out application tests, migrations and certifications on a latest technology platform.

On the other hand, it is worth highlighting that HP is reinforcing this investment with its "HP Developer and Solution Partner" Program, through which we are supporting ISVs, software developers and integrators present in Latin America, so the Grid Lab entails benefits for many countries", commented Carlos Salsamendi, Territory Manager of Hewlett-Packard for Uruguay and Paraguay.

In turn, Victor Iparraguire, ISV Manager Oracle Southern Region emphasized that "with the GRID LAB GeneXus developers will be able to access a more robust and sound technological base that offers the possibility of choosing on which platform to execute or run applications. This effort responds to market standards and opens new business opportunities".

The laboratory is inserted in the virtual world of Internet. Physically, the equipment will be installed in ARTech's offices in Zonamerica, Montevideo's free zone. In turn, Tilsor Oracle's business partner in Uruguay has a demonstration hall which is located in the center of town and can thus offer comfortable access to participants in the actions.

Even though the most important deployments and uses of grid computing have had academic and scientific research purposes, today's small, medium and large companies are beginning to feel the need to have a grid computing scheme. With the mass use of Internet, e-business and outsourcing, the possibilities of grid computing have become huge. Companies need to focus on improving their competitiveness and delegate growth management of IT resources to a robust, reliable and flexible system that can control their growth under demand.

Strategic importance for Uruguayan companies

The Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technologies (CUTI) and the University of the Republic, created in September a Software Testing Center (CES), where Uruguayan and regional companies can make queries about new technologies and perform trial runs with them. This project has received support and strong funding from the European Union.
