| Last May 21st, a system was launched to allow the State organization to query data from eleven different Customs institutions worldwide, among other features. The solution was developed in GeneXus, in a joint activity of Cybernet, Ucom and Concepto, done through AGESIC. |
In Enrique Almeida’s blog, we can see that the Business Information System of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay has been made public.
This system allows queries on foreign trade (imports / exports) data from eleven Customs organizations from around the world. This enables Uruguay’s representatives abroad to study business opportunities in different countries, based on the products sold by those countries.
The system was developed by Cybernet, Ucom and Concepto through AGESIC, and programmed with GeneXus 9.0, generating Java and SQL Server DB of around 70Gb for the data of 5 years available so far.
This was an interesting project, because it was rather short (around 90 days) and its development was done in a distributed manner, while communications between work teams was through the Internet. So, only an explanatory and coordination meeting of programmers was necessary. Instant messaging and email were used for all other stages in the project.
Working with other companies allows for learning different methodologies for approaching problems, something that proves quite enriching.
Both parties handled the project very well and it could be developed and installed in the production servers and integrated with GXportal within the expected time frames, so the planned schedule was actually fulfilled.
The correct use of consolidated data on foreign trade from several countries in different years lead to very interesting conclusions. If the State were not as divided into so many different entities, this data could be used, for example, to cross-reference data on exports from Uruguay to Argentina, with imports in Argentina from Uruguay and for studying existing divisions.
