CP2.0 Interview: Desktop Virtual

Alisson Paiva, of Brazil’s GeneXus Community, talks about the project she is carrying out with two colleagues with the purpose of incorporating the concepts of Web 2.0 in their project.

- What is Desktop Virtual?

-
Desktop Virtual is a project that uses Web 2.0 concepts to simulate the applications of an operating system in a website.

- How did the idea of creating it originate?

- The idea for the project arose from the Community forum. A user once told us that he was going to create a User Control and that gave us the idea of creating a KB with similar functions. We started doing it with GeneXus 9, but when we heard about Collaborative Projects, we immediately migrated it to GeneXus X, as we found that this tool offered us more resources.

- What motivated you to participate in the second edition of Collaborative Projects 2.0?

- There are several reasons; one of our main reasons is the wish to further develop GeneXus X and GeneXus Server. It is also very interesting for us because it allows us to exchange experiences and knowledge with other participants.

- What are the challenges to be addressed in your project?

- Taking full advantage of the new solutions of GeneXus X Evolution 1. Another challenge is working with teams whose members are distributed in different places, and achieving an effective communication between those team members. For that reason we have created some programming and documentation rules aimed at reducing potential problems. Anyway, we hope we’ll be able to overcome the challenges and complete the project in a satisfactory way.

- What are your expectations with respect to CP 2.0?

-We hope that, in addition to exchanging experiences with other participants and making the tool ours, we will be able to leave useful solutions as a legacy to the Community.
