New Pocket PC Generator
With this version, GeneXus users have access to a new generator that enables them to develop Embedded Visual Basic applications that work in Pocket PC devices (Pocket PC operating system, 2000 or 2002).
Although these applications have been adapted to match the characteristics of the Pocket PC platform, they are equal to the ones developed with GeneXus in Visual Basic or Visual FoxPro.
Generator News
There is also news for JAVA and .NET generators. With this beta, they can generate transactions whose validations are made on the client (Client side validation). Although this dialog is similar to the one known for the other visual generators, the advantage is that it improves scalability and multiple-tier execution. This feature offers great benefits to those who wish to convert their applications into such platforms.
Moreover, with the release of this GeneXus beta version, the COBOL and RPG generators enter into the betatest stage.
Using Web Services Is Easier Each time
With this version, consuming any Web Service is as easy as providing it. The WSDL Inspector, enables the definition of the data needed in GeneXus from a Web Service's WSDL, for consuming the Web Services in a transparent way without worrying about the protocols involved in the process, nor the definition.
New Theme Object Improvements
There have also been improvements in the 'Theme'-object feature, which now enables, for a predetermined set of HTML tags, the definition of all the characteristics that one may want to show in the web page.
The GeneXus Olimar version has incorporated a new object called Theme, which enables the user to do things such as: carry out developments in faster way, generate pages quicker, and save time and reduce maintenance costs even more.
New Feature: Conditional Restrictions
Conditional restrictions, another new feature, enables the filters (where), and the orders (order) in the queries (For each) to be conditionally triggered. This means more dynamism and better performance for GeneXus applications, and a relief for developers and their work.
Improvements in the Development Environment
Apart from other advantages that increase productivity in using the tool, the Olimar GeneXus development environment also has new editors (for subtypes, attribute definition and variables, and others).
