"It was the first time we developed for the Internet", stated Luis Aguirregaray, who has been working with GeneXus for three years together with Wilson Da Cunda, a user with many years in the GeneXus community. "We arrived at the GIVS and, an hour later, we had configured the PC's and started the development", he said.
Aguirregaray and Da Cunda used the Solís version of GeneXus to develop the site. And they used the webcomponents, a new feature included in this version, for the design.
They chose the C/SQL generator to generate the Web site and the Java generator for the application backoffice.
Jugátela's design supports a wide range of games, not only in soccer but in all sports. According to the level of interest from the public, games can be opened on a stage to stage modality or by event. For instance, for the Opening Competition and the Playoffs of the World Cup, the game was opened by stages, so that participants could forecast the result of each stage -with the corresponding winner- and accumulate the obtained points for the definition of the game's final winner.
In other competitions or events which do not draw the same degree of attention, specific games are opened. For instance, in a tennis Grand Slam a game could be opened to forecast the winners of the male and female categories.
To participate, the players must register as users of the Montevideo Comm Portal (www.montevideo.com.uy) and, within Jugatela.com; they must enter a nickname, their country of origin and their ID number. The competitions currently available for participation are the following: the "Copa América" (American Soccer Cup), the Preliminary Round of the Korea-Japan World Cup, the Uruguayan teams series of the "Mercosur Cup", the Uruguayan Opening Championship and the Formula 1 World Championship. There are prizes for the winners of each stage and for the winners of the whole game. Besides, there is the possibility of creating participants' clubs to organize gambling rounds among friends or office-fellow-workers. This gambling rounds are administered by the one who creates the club. The ones who participate in a club, play with the same bet in the general forecast.
Jugátela has made a strategic alliance with Montevideo Comm, provider of the application hosting that has integrated the sports forecasting proposal to the portal, and shares its users. "The users table is a data view of the Montevideo Comm table", explained Aguirregaray.
