K2B at Uruguay's Instituto Nacional de Colonización: accessibility and swiftness in procedures for the whole country

K2B implemented its ERP at the Uruguayan National Settlement Office (INC, by its acronym in Spanish). Changes in internal processes where accepted positively by this new technology users while the Office automated its work. Now, all regional offices around the country are able to access the information.
The INC is a government agency that manages national lands with a social and economic approach in order to advance production. Therefore, the job of this public agency is to acquire lands or receive them as the owner or administrator to then assign them to farmer families.

As a state agency, it manages a large volume of information – whether technical or statistical– on a daily basis, as well as data relating to procedures of different nature carried out at the Office and through interconnection with regional offices. From the technological point of view, the Office used to employ DOS for managing this large volume of information, and it needed to incorporate the whole management of the information up to then (carried out in different ways, some automated and some manual) into a single integrated process.

In order to align this with the fundamentals of electronic government and comply with its own objectives – streamlining management and processes, having a global vision of all the information updated in real time and making procedures more efficient and accessible – the INC decided to invest in technological update.

K2B was the selected ERP due to its capability regarding budget management and control of expenses detail. At the same time, the implementation of the administrative, financial and accounting system was done through tailor-made adaptations with regards to the management of lands and settlers (those who occupy the lands and add value to them). In addition, the implementation included modeling/parameterization and user training.

The implementation of K2B was completed with k2b Tools and other products by Artech that contributed to the solution’s development: GXquery, GXportal and GXflow.

Specific advantages of the K2B technology

K2B’s SOA architecture allows for an easy integration with the Office’s internal management system through Web Services. One of K2B's advantages is that since it's a full web system, regional offices in the interior of the country will only need a PC with an Internet connection and a browser in order to access the system, thus expanding the scope to all the regions around the country, allowing for the distribution of information and fostering collaborative work.
