Migration of Conaprole's system into GeneXus 7.5

"We have taken advantage of the new features of the HTML editor in order to work with the screen as pretty much seen by final users, thus speeding up the pace of development time," said Carmen Forteza, from Conaprole's department Systems Development.

Fresh Milk Management (Gestion Leche Fresca, GLF) is an application for the milk industry that has been developed with GeneXus at Conaprole. The application integrates the different stages in the process from milk production in farms to milk availability for industrial processing in real time.
GLF supports features from specific processes in the milk industry, and it is integrated through ERP types of applications that support standard processes in different businesses.

"By introducing GeneXus 7.5 in the development of GLF, this application has started to operate in a three-tier architecture for good. For the Infolac module, in particular, all the databases installed in each one of the industrial plants have been removed," said Martín Machín, Chief of the department of Systems Development for Conaprole's Business.

GLF has several modules that ensure that the milk will get to the industrial plants in time and in good condition, with a better quality. Moreover, the application generates information to make payment effective to milk producers as well as information that the milk company handles and uses to manage, both efficiently and effectively, relations with milk producers and transportation companies.
The Infolac module, which was migrated into a three-tier architecture by getting rid of remote databases, is used for handling the milk supply and has been put in production in 8 Conaprole plants. Infolac encompasses milk handling and quality, and is used in industrial plants, quality-control laboratories, the Logistics department, and the Milk Production Area.

"We have reused, in a transparent way, the webpanels that we had developed with GeneXus 6.x versions, and we have taken advantage of the new features in the HTML editor which actually allow us to work with the screen as pretty much seen by final users, thus speeding up the pace of development times in the migration of the department of Systems Development for Conaprole's Business," said Carmen Forteza.
"The possibility of including multiple sub-files and multiple events in a webpanel, has allowed us to create screens with more features. We still have not had any profits from the web transactions (from the GeneXus 7.5 version), but we need to keep in mind that the initial goal of this project was to migrate the application into three tiers by getting rid of remote databases. We have reached our goal ahead of time," she added.

Apart from Infolac, GLF encompasses modules for routing trucks, automating milk collection, credit management, debit management, settlement and payment to milk producers, milk producer management, and the managerial information system. The application offers features for all the players involved in the chain, namely milk producers, technicians supporting them, the milk industry, and transportation companies. GLF offers a high-availability system in terms of database, and a Microsoft Windows 2000 server farm, in terms of application, where GeneXus (Visual Basic C/S generator)-generated ASP's are executed. Clients, on the other hand, use Microsoft Internet Explorer," specified Mr. Machín.
