Mobile Applications and GeneXus X: Get ready for the future

The .NET Mobile generator will soon be included in Beta 1 of GeneXus X Evolution 1. In addition to the advantages of working with GeneXus in web pages and applications, it will make it possible to create Windows applications that run on mobile devices. Since mobile applications –both online and offline– thrive in this scenario and are also a global trend, this is the right time to start to learn more.

The mobile devices that we use every day and are available in the market (phones, PCs, notebooks, smartphones, tablets, desktops, pocket PCs) are growing in numbers and offering more features.

Where is this device trend headed? And, in this sense, what applications would be profitable to develop?

The trend is that devices are becoming more ubiquitous and varied, in more platforms, with people who stay connected for longer periods. And in this scenario, platforms, devices, and connection methods are being upgraded at an increasingly rapid pace. In such a complex scenario, the best thing to do is prepare for the future!!

GeneXus is a perfect fit due to its flexible and multi-platform nature for complex applications, whether online or offline. Why? Because it has the necessary technology to increase productivity and enhance usability in simple steps while reducing the times and costs of development, implementation, and adaptation.

The GeneXus X work style is focused on the future, and that's why it moves forward with this trend and expands its reach and abilities. In this case, GeneXus X Evolution 1 will introduce the possibility of developing both Web and Windows applications.

With GeneXus, we are committed to keeping innovation in motion, generating applications with the latest technology.

Enhanced support for Web Mobile applications in GeneXus X Evolution 1

Web Mobile application development has been improved by changing the way web pages, styles, and java scripts are generated when a GeneXus Web Application is displayed in mobile devices. Besides, in GeneXus X a new option has been added to the Work With Pattern that allows you to generate Work With objects for Smart Devices, changing the generated pages, styles, and Master Page.
The supported mobile devices in GeneXus X Evolution 1 CTP 2 are the iPhone (Safari Browser), Pocket PC and S60 using Opera Mobile, and Blackberry version 4.6 (BOLD) or higher.
Opera Mini browser (www.operamini.com) is also supported, which enables applications to run in a variety of other devices as well. Opera Mini doesn't support Ajax HTTP calls, but GeneXus handles this situation and applications automatically stop executing those calls if Opera Mini is being used.

You can browse an online sample in your mobile device here.
