Marcos Canán, a member of Tacuati, has participated in the GeneXus Platform Partners Program since the end of 2007; thus, he shares with the Community the experience of belonging to the program, through the benefits and support provided by Artech. As an independent developer, his experience shows that devoting oneself to the development of extensions for GeneXus X is more than a possibility.

How did you get the idea of joining the GeneXus Platform Partner Program?
The idea came up in the Meeting carried out by GeneXus last year, when Nicolás Jodal – Artech Vice President – and José Lamas – member of the Artech Development Team – introduced the program. Since I had already worked on developing extensions, I thought it could be a good opportunity to participate, so I joined the program in October 2007.

Since then, what User Controls have you developed with GeneXus technology?
I wish to point out three User Controls:
1) Google Map: enables the use of Google Maps services from GeneXus.
2) Tag Cloud: presents labels and represents the importance of each of these through the font size.
3) Advanced Data Grid: a grid which makes it possible to arrange rows hierarchically.
And have you developed extensions?
Yes, the Task List allows you to schedule the tasks to perform in a KB.
What markets have you worked in?
Basically, in South America, for Ecuador, Argentina and Uruguay.
What benefits for User Controls does working with GeneXus technology provide?
The capacity for extensibility provided by GeneXus X opens the door so that any of us may build specific additions for each need. Particularly, User Controls allow us to create – in any web technology – reusable components to be integrated and used in a natural way with GeneXus, thus obtaining richer and more productive applications.
The controls I have developed cover specific functionalities that were not covered by the standard controls. As more User Controls and Extensions appear, I think we will be creating an increasingly powerful tool among all of us.
In this context, why is it useful to join the GeneXus Platform Partners Program?
It provides opportunity and support. Support is provided by the help of the development team, by access to Artech software and by the commercial aspect. Additionally, it is a unique opportunity to formally participate in the development of GeneXus extensions.
What are your next projects?
In Tacuati, we are working in User Controls for Adobe Flex, and shortly, we will make an Issue Tracker from the “Task List.”
