SACEEM uses LoGistiX on Java

SACEEM, a construction company member of the European group SPIE, has incorporated LoGistiX, a product developed with GeneXus by CYBERNET, for its supply IT system.

SACEEM is a construction company, founded in 1951, which also works in the maintenance of physical infrastructure operations. It is the first Uruguayan engineering and construction company to receive the UNIT-ISO 9001 certification issued by the two national certifying institutions in Uruguay, UNIT and LATU. It has also obtained the OQS European certification (Austria), and the IQNET diploma issued by the International Network of Certifying Institutions.
SACEEM is currently working on numerous projects ranging from civilian-type projects (large structures, bridges, dams,
and infrastructure), to engineering works for industries, sanitary and electric power installations, communications, etc. The Marriott Hotel and the World Trade Center are part of the constructing company's clientele
in Uruguay.

In order to carry out all these projects, the company has a purchasing department that centralizes the requirements corresponding to each one of them. Material-related orders, delivery, and authorization -at the project-sites and at the main warehouse- as well as issuance of purchasing orders and quotation requests are all remotely handled from the purchasing office. This year SACEEM has adopted the use of LoGistiX -Cybernet's product developed with GeneXus- as an IT system used for supply management purposes.
"
In spite of the difficulties, which are intrinsic to a specific supply system for a construction company, LoGistiX has proved to be a product befitting the task for which it has been created", Miguel Blum, Saceem's purchasing director, stressed.

As far as supply management is concerned, LoGistiX facilitates a global follow up of products and requests. The same can be said about fluency in terms of communication, not only between the different projects and the purchasing sector, but also between the latter and suppliers. All this is done in such a way that all the operating steps involved in multiple-player scenarios are traced and audited. In all cases, the data are input only once and then used upon selection for future steps
,
thus speeding up operations and avoiding mistakes.

In order for the construction company to cope with the need of establishing remote connections via the Internet
throughout the whole country, Cybernet customized LoGistiX's knowledge base for SACEEM in its Java version with a three-tier architecture, as well as access to a centralized Oracle database.

By incorporating the reception of merchandise at the project-sites into the system, users at SACEEM projects may input requests and cancel purchasing orders that are issued by the purchasing department. The main warehouse keeps track of inventory levels, establishes and channels replacement orders to purchasing, and prepares consumption vouchers for delivery to project-sites. Costs are compared all throughout the system. Prices and financial discounts offered by different suppliers are compared and purchasing orders are authorized
in a hierarchical level.

The historical information that is automatically gathered makes project directors control and budget-related tasks for new projects easier. The system provides multiple queries and reports, which may provide either global or thorough information on inventories and on all events related to the supply process. In regards to this, Cybernet is planning to incorporate GeneXus QUERY in the next LoGistiX's version, in order to expand the possibility of obtaining relevant information, Jorge Moleri, Cybernet's Director, reported.
