Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) is an engine with a database that is compatible with SQL Server, which can be installed from the Visual Studio 6.0 or from Office 2000. One tip in its favor is that the solutions developed on this platform can be freely distributed, which is a very interesting alternative to the solutions on Jet –Access’ database engine by default-, also taking advantage of all the Client/Server advantages.

The platform is completely compatible with SQL Server 7.0, so from the GeneXus point of view, the application is generated for this last platform, without any other changes being needed. We think that it is an ideal alternative for the development of small solutions, or for prototyping applications that will be put into production with SQL Server.
