'We do not know what to do without GeneXus'

'We are GeneXus -dependent, we do not know what to do without GeneXus', Jorge Arancibia outlines, president of Management Systems for Business (MSB) an Argentinian enterprise of software development, a GeneXus client since six years ago.

MSB is 11 and was born with MAP, an application of human resources for managing salaries traditionally developed in RPG.
When GeneXus started generating for RPG they decided to use the tool and they started with the project six years ago.
Today MAP is an application of human resources and of software management. It is used by large and medium enterprises (for example Chubut province's government  with 20 thousand employees) and it covers three large topics: time, lists and human resources' administration.
MSB does not sell the knowledge base, but it sells MAP's use license. As a difference with the other applications developed in GeneXus that work from the knowledge base, MSB developed a standard application that is adapted on the parameters' base to what the client needs regarding behavior. It is not necessary to modify the knowledge base, loading data is enough and even the user can do it. MSB participates in the implementation of the product but with functional consultants without a technical profile.
20-25 people, seven of whom work in the development area, integrate the enterprise.
With GeneXus they made MAP versions for AS/400, for nets in Windows NT and client-server versions with Oracle. 'Without GeneXus, without a tool, it would have been impossible to generate for other platforms different from AS/400', he outlines.
The first MAP version developed in GeneXus was launched four years ago. 'It was clear that if we continued the development traditionally we would not be able to grow in quantity of installations, because we needed more people to maintain those versions'.
The quality of the things that are generated with GeneXus allows the released things to be error free, so the solidez level that the application has admits having more installations than the ones you would have if the application was developed in an artesanal way', Arancibia outlined.
Apart from the installations in Argentina, MAP is used in the Banco Comercial, IMSA and Zara Shops in Uruguay, and there are installations in Chile, Bolivia and Colombia, too. 'Everything that Artech has been announcing these year was fulfilled. Without GeneXus it would have been impossible to give MAP the functional reach, the stability it has and the depth regarding each topic's resolution', Arancibia admitted.
The MAP design experience, among other reasons, encouraged MSB, one year ago, to develop a commercial management product that adapts the application's behavior through parameters. 'We had technology to develop applications, based on the use of GeneXus, the MAP design experience and we also had the functional knowledge on the commercial management topic because four years ago, we started four Truck installations in Argentina', the president of MSB explained. The enterprise sold the first GeneXus Truck installation in Argentina in AS/400, and the first client-server Truck installation in Argentina.
The Commercial Management Software (CMS) product has been in production at JG.Padilla (La Morenita) for a year, and in Café La Virginia that will incorporate 17 installations for each of its branches.
The experience at JG. Padilla (La Morenita) outlines that the target was fulfilled. 'There is no maintenance for it to be able to work, we are achieving what we wanted: that through the parameters' modification the application can be maintained by the user or someone functional without a technical profile that does not perform the modifications that de-stabilizes the application', he concluded.
