Finally, after several months of tests and new additions, we've made it to the RC version of GeneXus X Evolution 1.

Once again, we're ending a cycle in our lives as GeneXus developers: we started in the DOS era, we went through the Windows era, and now we've definitely reached the Web before even going to the clouds (as this will also be a trend). What has changed since then? And why should we take a close look at the Evolution version? It's simple. GeneXus X was released in April 2008, and at that time the plan was that we would only have Web generators (Java, C# and Ruby); however, many people whose systems were still in GeneXus 7.5/8.0/9.0 would want to migrate to the newer version and take advantage of some of its benefits, such as the new Data Selectors, Data Providers, BPM Objects, among others. Well, what happened? Artech started to develop the Evolution version, bringing back the Windows and text generators, which at first would only exist until GeneXus 9 but, of course, without the VB generator.

However, after many days of testing this version we can reach the conclusion that these text and win generators will have one main purpose: Web migration. In GeneXus X, as it was released last year, this would be nearly impossible, as you would have to delete everything GUI. Now this has been made possible without requiring a great effort.

What do we gain with GeneXus Evolution?

It’s an excellent tool to work with the latest resources of Web 2.0, new objects and the ability to integrate native code of languages such as Java and C#.

In a few days this version will be released, and a new era will begin: we will take advantage of objects such as transactions, procedures and reports, and familiarize users with interfaces that will be increasingly less bound to an operating system and increasingly more mobile within browsers.

There's only one thing left to say about all this: “It’s time to release your talent”. Finally, we're ONLINE.
