GeneXus 7.0's first evolution

GeneXus version Solís Beta 1 improves some of GeneXus 7.0's features And implements new functionalities directed to the Internet: Support for mobile Internet, transactions in the Web and Web Components

Generating applications for Mobile Internet (WAP), facilitating the data's entrance and updating through the Internet and the possibility of programming only once the same part of code to be used in several Web objects are the three main functionalities that the GeneXus version, released last Tuesday 12th, incorporates.

GeneXus Solís beta 1 allows developing applications that provide access to the information through mobile wireless devices, such as cellular phones, palm, etc. This was achieved when we could include the possibility of generating objects with WML content, the tags' language based on XML that is interpreted by WAP, Mobile Internet's commonest protocol.

With the aim of generating Web Panels with WML content we added a new property called 'Tag Language', so the one who wants to design a mobile application with GeneXus must define the Web Panels as he did up to the moment and configure 'Tag Language = WML'

Besides, you can generate HTML transactions, which makes data's entry and updating through the Internet easy, because it is not necessary to use Web Panels and procedures as we did up to the moment.

Regarding the third feature that allows programming the same part of the code to be used in several objects only once, it is performed when defining Web Components. The 'Web Components' are Web Panels that can be executed by themselves or that can be a part of another Web Panel object or Web Transaction and as a consequence they allow GeneXus Web applications' designers a great re-usage degree of them. Any part of a Web Panel that is repeated in several Web Panels or Web Transactions of an application can be defined as Web Component.

More news

Since this version, the reports and procedures can send data to a file with XML format. This way, it is very simple to create a file with XML format, using all the power and simplicity that the reports provide, avoiding having to use low-level functions in order to do it.

Regarding the news for the generators SPPs's inclusion in the Visual Basic generator completes the implementation of such a feature that was already available in 7.0 for Java and C/SQL generators. This last one also incorporated the possibility of generating 'Web Objects' like ISAPI instead of CGI.

Apart from the outlined features, this version allows encrypting parameters in the URLs to avoid that the users recognize or modify values that are passed among an application's objects; implementation of the 'click' event in textblock and combo boxes; connection to a database without the need for defining the corresponding data source; dynamic SQL command's implementation to be able to include SQL sentences inside GeneXus ' sources, modification of maximum attribute limit per KB, etc.
