ComunidadGX Published in GXOpen

The ComunidadGX site, created by a group of GeneXus users in 2003, currently boasts over 420 registered users worldwide, more than 40 job offers published, and seven submitted projects.

The ComunidadGX is a place for meeting others and exchanging knowledge and experience among GeneXus users. It originated in response to the initiative of a group of members of the ARTech forums who were seeking for a place to gather their programming suggestions, GeneXus tricks, recommendations, job requests and offers, the publication of the background of GeneXus programmers, and the presentation of projects that need development, integration, and marketing partners, etc.

"From the very beginning, we knew that if we really wanted to honor the tool around which we had gathered, the site hosting ComunidadGX had to be a full-GeneXus development," said Luis Mariano Papagni, who coordinates the undertaking from Argentina.

"The first version of the community was published in May 2003, based on a KB (Knowledge Base) sent by Ariel Isola, combined with different features sent by other members. It was fully developed with GeneXus 7.5; it used the Visual Basic generator, and Access as a database," he explained.

From then on, ComunidadGX started growing in terms of members and features, following good critique and suggestions from those who started registering. The last version of the site offers many alternatives for resource integration and collaboration.

"The KB of ComunidadGX was published in the first days of 2004 in GXOpen (http://www.gxopen.com) so that everyone would have a chance to add improvements and features. This offers the possibility of improving on successive versions. It also offers a chance for the GeneXus community to have a place that will contribute to its integration and enhanced collaboration," Papagni explained. He added that they were thinking about migrating the KB to GeneXus 8.0, and maybe to GeneXus .NET with SQL, in future versions.

Papagni said that, "many members of the GeneXus family have participated [in this project] such as Ariel Isola, Marigel Corti, Pedro Fernández Aphal, Gabriel Icasuriaga, Esteban A. Carle, Sergio Guichon, Juan Echavarria, Cristian Lira, my buddies from SOFTeam, among many others who have contributed with their grains of sand in their free time."
