Axon Technologies, a Taiwan-based systems consulting company, signed an agreement with GeneXus Inc. at the beginning of last year for the distribution of GeneXus in Asia. The Taiwanese company has decided to offer GeneXus to its large client-portfolio and to introduce the tool in the rest of the market.
Axon made the first sale of GeneXus in China to Want-Want, one of the main rice companies in the country with offices in Shangai and Taiwan, and 37 branches throughout China provinces.
GeneXus Inc. joined efforts with the Axon and Want-Want project in order to contribute on the production of the application. GeneXus Inc. who's parent company is ARTech, is the master distributor of GeneXus in the Unites States. They are in charge of training consultants who work at Axon Technologies since most of these consultants have participated, in one way or another, in such project.
The challenge for the GeneXus Inc consultant upon their arrival was making messages and programs that are automatically generated by GeneXus be in Chinese. Another challenge was making GeneXus support double-byte, since for saving each character - this language uses two bytes instead of just one.
"I traveled to Shangai expecting to find an application in English, and found out that all the literals, messages, rules, and comments on the procedures were in Chinese!", said GeneXus Inc. consultant, Lionel Kaminsky. ARTech and GeneXus Inc. had assured the new distributor that the GeneXus tool would not support the Chinese language.
With the installation of Chinese support for Windows, Axon Technologies consultants made it possible for a piece of equipment with Windows and a keyboard in English to write in Chinese. GeneXus, a Windows tool, did not have major problems in supporting such feature.
Thanks to the joint efforts of ARTech, GeneXus Inc. and Axon Technologies, GeneXus has, nowadays, its version into Chinese. The tool already provided support for Spanish, English, Portuguese, and Italian.
