GeneXus X Evolution 2 Beta released!

Beta 1 of this revolutionary version of GeneXus has been made public. The GeneXus Community will now have the opportunity to develop applications for Smart Devices and lead the way in relation to the big opportunities created around these new devices.

The Revolution

There is a revolution around Smart Devices. A new kind of devices (phones, tablets and others) getting more and more popular. This revolutionizes application development too since new kinds of applications are running (and can be built) on these smart devices: Native Task (or Activity) Oriented applications and Consumer applications.

Consumers all over the world choose which smart device to buy and use. On the other side each smart devices manufacturer states its own user interface standards and development languages which makes application development for smart devices even more challenging.

The Product

GeneXus X Evolution 2 incorporates technology and a specific generator for these devices: the Smart Devices Generator. The devices supported so far are Android, Blackberry and iOS -iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch.

This means that you describe your needs, and GeneXus generates the applications and makes them run on those devices; all of them based on a single description.

Background

The generator was announced at the XX GeneXus Meeting; you can watch the presentations given by Artech’s Vice President, Nicolás Jodal, here and here, or the presentation given by GeneXus Architect Gastón Milano, here.

One month later, on October 29, the first bits of GeneXus X Evolution 2 were released and a few days after launch the product was already being tested by more than 200 beta testers and around 120 companies of the GeneXus world.

In no time, the Community developed its first applications and the reactions quickly appeared on blogs, in the form of instructions to develop the first application or as words of admiration.

The conversation on Twitter, under the hashtag #xev2beta, is where we can find the largest number of comments. In addition, it was the first media used by the Community to interact and where you can closely follow this version from the very beginning.

GeneXus X Evolution 2 Beta 1

Beta 1 has been released so that the Community can enjoy the process of developing GeneXus X Evolution 2 and take part in the Beta Test from the first stages.

This Beta offers the possibility to generate applications for devices such as Android 2.x and Ruby back office.

Over the next few days, the product's functionality will be expanded and its documentation will be improved.
