The GXtips move is going strong. They provide clear and practical advice that simplifies tasks. This time, Eugenio Garcia, GXportal & GXflow Project Manager, tells us what the new version of GXportal will be like and which will be its main functionalities. |

One of the main innovations of version 4.3 is portability. With a significant change of strategy, this time the versions will be released according to platform. That is why the new Gxportal version will present a base platform that is Open Source, so GXportal will work with Java and MySQL, allowing for installation of all the components of the tool on any Linux/Unix server. Also the Backend (that is the management tool) of GXportal can be used on Firefox, thus supplementing usability with Open Source applications. After this the version 4.3 for .NET platform with SQLServer will be released and so on until all the available platforms are covered. In this way version release will be accelerated.
Creating a portal has never been so easy. In this new version you can select from a set of portals designed by business area. These predesigned portal templates offer a ready made portal with all the functionalities. That means that when we select one of these templates, all the elements that integrate the portal will be created automatically such as: pages, content, navigation menus, etc., with the corresponding design for the area of business. Gxportal users will also be able to export their own portal templates to exchange them with other users. This way we seek to generate a more participative community by means of the use of portal templates that will then be incorporated to the product.
On a different token, flexibility will be one of the main characteristics of GXportal 4.3. It will be possible to configure the content browser to work on a specific type of content or on a limited set of contents, instead of making a search on all the defined contents.
The content GXportlet will enable publishing in one page the contents of an edition of a specific list of news. This enables publishing in our portal the contents that have been sent, in addition to sending a list of news to all the subscribers. This GXportlet can be configured to show the contents of the last 10 days. It was previously possible to select and filter by quantity of contents to be shown. Now it will be also possible to filter by number of days and also by category, that is, to request for the contents of a specific category to be presented. If an edition of a list of news has various contents: some events, some promotions, contents about new careers, etc., we can now present in one page just the contents related with events that were sent in a news list edition.
But obviously this is not all that is new in GXportal. In the next issues of Gxnews we will continue presenting the main characteristics of this product, which really make it the best tool to design, administrate and maintain dynamic portals without the need to program.
