In the last few days I’ve had the opportunity to try GXserver’s new builds.
In addition to the new functionalities and greater stability provided by this server, it includes a feature I found very impressive, the “KBs Viewer”.
I thought it would be interesting to share with you some screenshots of this feature, which is the beginning of something very important that is just emerging.
This “viewer” allows you to open a KB directly in the Server and browse through it with just one browser installed. As I always say when faced with these advances: “this is going to make for hours of fun.”
But let’s take it one step at a time. I have the feeling this will be the first of many posts regarding this subject.
The first thing that attracted my attention was the change in the look&feel; it hits you as soon as you enter the Server.
We went from this "main":

Another thing I found interesting is that it has a "Configuration" tab where I can see, for example, the "User Controls" installed in that server. Even more interesting is the “Add new user control” button, which lets you upload a new UC directly from the browser.
This was not possible in previous versions. You had to access the server directly through the internal network (not via the browser). Now you could say that we can manage the server from the browser.
Going back to the home screen, instead of just the RSS we had before, now I can open a KB directly by clicking on the corresponding link. For example, if we open the “AjaxSample” that was already included in that server, we can see the “home” screen of that KB:
There, I can see the last “commits” (news), also the information in the IDE’s “KB Information” (number and type of objects, tables, etc.), as well as the number of commits/updates (activity) that have taken place in that KB, etc, etc.
That is, the general information regarding the KB itself and its activity in the server.
In the “Documentation” tab, if I’d done a good job with documentation (or someone had taken the trouble for me), I would see the KB's "main document":
This feature is particularly interesting because from it I can browse the rest of the KB's documentation by following the links that appear below:
So far, then, I have been able to see the KBs listed, their level of activity, associated documentation, etc., but that’s not all: now I can browse all the information in the KB without having to download it and without any PC requirement. All I have to do is access the "Knowledge Base" tab, and this is what I find:
Note that I have the “folder view” on the left, three open transactions, one active transaction (Invoice), and in the active transaction, I have the properties (on the right side) and all the parts (structure, forms, rules) of the object.
With this, I can browse ALL the knowledge in a way similar to the IDE’s.

In short, I believe that this will change a large part of what we do and how we do it. There are many other features having to do with security and architecture, for example, which we will deal with in our posts shortly. Get ready for GXServer!!
