GxTend is a response to the different problems that arise
during software development; it's emphasis is on those projects that use GeneXus
as its main development tool and makes available to companies and the different
actors involved a group of solutions that aim at the different sectors/stages
that make up a project.
The solutions to those problems are the
following:
- Concurrency control in the development.
- Versioning.
- Traceability.
- Promotion of changes among different Knowledge Bases
(Kbs)
- Access to knowledge contained in a GeneXus Kb on the
part of different roles with dissimilar interests.
- Metrics.
" Categorization in order to group applications (GeneXus
Kb) into modules.
Although some of these functions may be implemented
through working methodologies only, in the end more man-hours are dedicated to
manual administrative tasks that are error-prone and not very gratifying.
Consequently, many times compromise solutions are found which reduce these tasks
at the expense of loss of control. In conclusion, the risk exists of defining
methodologies that do not contemplate all the aspects that are of interest to
the organization.
On the other hand, GxTend has an interesting proposal in
relation to productivity tools and a group of highly useful basic
reports:
- Comparison of GeneXus Kbs.
- Search of mains programs to compile.
- Useful writing operations on GeneXus Kbs, such as for
example a massive folder change.
To conclude, GxTend not only allows defining the
methodology that will be most convenient for the organization, but it also aims
at quality in software development. For this it provides the process that is
most adequate for the organization and the product, while simultaneously
generating a notable increase in each developer's productivity.
