Conaprole chose GXPortal as a tool for the development of
its web portal, which nowadays is the entrance door for all the information and
services provided by the company with regards to important business processes.
This decision was led by two needs: the centralization of web applications
developed for different company areas in connection with milk collection as well
as the processes involved in stages prior to industrial processing, and a
quicker update of the information that was published.
Freddy Lucía, Conaprole's IT Manager, says that he
cost-benefit relation of GXPortal is good, and that given all the GeneXus
developments that the company has had, adopting it came as a natural decision.
Conaprole has more than 60 web applications developed with GeneXus, apart from
the Fresh Milk Management system that administrates the core of the business.
Each of the company areas participating in the process
used to have specific queries that were not integrated to the rest, and were
kept by a single person. Now, each of the areas is part of a channel of the milk
portal -cooperating partners, transporters, regional technicians, logistics, and
PROLESA (sale of inputs to producers)- whose content is handled by one
responsible person per channel. Leonardo Grandillo, the person in charge of
developing Conaprole's Milk Portal, says that the Workflow that comes with
GXPortal is very powerful and has enabled the company to put a
content-administration system together that is decentralized among several
users, according to their profile.
The information that has not been included is available
through the Conaprole's management systems, and there is no need for updating it
because it is automatically back-fed and available in real time. The milk portal
offers public information as well as real-time access to data pertaining to the
systems that manage Conaprole's business (SAP R/3 and Fresh Milk Management
developed with GeneXus).
The Single Sing On (SSO) included by GXPortal avoided
having to add all the users so that they can access the system. This is so
because when logging in, they are checked in based on the company's database
itself. A secure connection is also used for logging users in and the password
is encrypted.
The site was designed using GXportlets provided by
GXPortal. "GXportlets give great speed to web-site design and enable users to
put a portal together in a few weeks," said Grandillo.
