Cristhian Gómez presents his G-Audit project and tells us why it would be useful for the Community, as well as his reasons to participate in CP 2.0. |
GeneXus Analyst CP 2.0 Project: G-Audit
Your project is called G-Audit, Audit Management of GeneXus-developed Systems. Why did you come up with this idea?
The original idea to participate in CP 2.0 with G-Audit was to take advantage of this opportunity and do something that would help me migrate applications to GeneXus X. At present, I manually migrate applications from versions earlier than GeneXus 9. Since GeneXus X provides new tools to extend the existing functionalities, I thought it would be good to develop a pattern that helped me integrate application audit into the KB.
The project is useful in general because data audit is something that should be done in all applications. In this first stage the objective is to audit changes performed on the data, but in the future we'd like to extend it to make it applicable to some other things that can be audited.
What motivated you to participate in the second edition of Collaborative Projects 2.0?
In this edition of CP I wanted to focus on gaining experience in working remotely, creating a group that works from different geographic locations and whose members don't even know each other in person, as a way to strengthen the experience of working remotely. In that sense, this is one of my future objectives, to increase the amount of work I do remotely and do less on-site work. The G-Audit project is made up by people who don’t know each other and will work from different geographic locations.
What are the challenges to overcome in your project?
The first challenge is to succeed in creating a team that is able to work collaboratively and meet its objectives, even though its members have never met in person and are in different geographic locations. To make the team collaborate as a productive team and deliver results on time is something that can be difficult to achieve.
Anyway, the biggest challenge is to make the most of the potential offered by GeneXus X Evolution 1. I'd like the project to provide the Community with tools that are clearly identified as the new developments of GeneXus and become an example of the things that can be done with GeneXus Evolution 1.
What are your expectations in relation to CP 2.0?
First of all, I want to meet new people and interact with other Community members to exchange experiences. These are the most valuable things and you can really learn a lot by participating in these types of competitions. I’m not so focused on winning as on learning and succeeding in doing something really useful. My greatest expectation for the future, when we finish this project, is that people actually use it. I'd like all GeneXus developers to use G-Audit every time they have to perform an audit.
