The Agrop-Pecuária Alto Uruguai Ltda. cooperative
(Cotrimaio) offers various services in the farming and agroindustrial sectors,
such as the marketing and industrialization of farming products. It has a
presence in cereal grain businesses, farming equipment shops, supermarkets, fuel
outlets and meat packing plants.
Cotrimaio needed to collect data from its associates and
contributors to provide more information to their clients as well as give
salespeople more elements to consolidate the sale during the visit to the
client. For this purpose the solution had to supply the company agronomists with
information stored in the Progress database used by the corporate ERP-such as
what products have been bought by the farmers previously -in addition to
enabling closing product sales through orders.
The solution was the development of a Mobile System for
Pocket PC with GeneXus 9.0 and the .NET Mobile generator, and the development of
an interface that uses Web Services to synchronize and integrate the Pocket PC
mobile system data with the corporate ERP. We developed this interface with
GeneXus .NET generator using Business Components and SDTs, explained Glauber C.
Weddigen, Migrate Company Technology Director, who was in charge of the solution
development for Cotrimaio.
The ERP has a Progress data base that replicates the
information in an SQL Server base which agronomists use to synchronize the
information of their Pocket PCs through Web Services. SQL Server can also be
used as a DB for the WEB application that manages the information that the
agronomists obtain and load in the Pocket PC.
Weddigen emphasized GeneXus dynamic approach concerning
the technology of its generators and supported DBMS and underscored the
importance of using a technologically up-to-date tool. Migrate Technology
Director pointed out that this mobile solution offers greater efficiency in the
cooperative field activities, where the sales force no longer uses a diary but a
mobile GeneXus system in their Pocket PC.
