This new way of generating and reading Excel spreadsheets
allow using third party implementations to generate and read Excel spreadsheets
in Web; that is to say Jakarta POI or ExcelLite, depending on each installation
requirements.
The use of any of these new implementations for the
generation and reading of Excel spreadsheets is performed in the same way as
ExcelDocument data type, which allows using all the properties and methods of
this data type. Once again, GeneXus developer achieves new features without the
need to learn new concepts.
Besides, the decision of using Jakarta POI or ExcelLite is
dynamically taken, through GxExcelI.dll.
The implementation with Jakarta POI has no cost, since the
dlls can be download for free. Regarding ExcelLit, although it requires the use
of a dll with a cost, there is the possibility of using the free version
.
These new implementations can also be used in win
environments. For web applications, the only thing to be taken into account is
that the user executing the web objects must have writing rights in the
directory selected to save the spreadsheet. Besides, once the spreadsheet is
generated, there is the possibility of establishing a link to it so that the end
user can open it or even save a copy in his local PC.
In the next issue of the GeneXus News, with GeneXus 9.0
Upgrade 1 already released, we will provide a general presentation of its new
features, with detailed descriptions of some of the main ones.
