Standard Fruit of Honduras SA, is a Dole's Company that exports fresh fruit to international markets (bananas, pineapple, coconuts, mangos and fruit extract).
"We have chosen GeneXus because of its versatility to manage different platforms and languages. We have DB2/400, Oracle and SQL Server in the company and we had one developer for each one of them. Now, with GeneXus, all the members of the development team talk the same language," said Bernardo Bonilla, of the Standard Fruit Systems Department.
The company joined the Early Adopter Program proposal organized by ARTech and Microsoft, and started developing when GeneXus.NET was still in beta test process. Today, we have five GeneXus applications for Microsoft.NET platform in production, and two more applications under development.
One of the applications in production is used to control the seals with which we seal the containers with pineapples, bananas or any merchandize (Seals Control) to meet the regulations in force after the September 11 attack in the US. We are also using a graphic system (graphic Kardex of materials) that allows making a quick search among the goods in stock, and provides general information and images of the merchandise.
In addition, we already have in production a system that enables Standard Fruit of Honduras employees to query their pay, balance and deductions through the Intranet (anonymous queries), as well as an application that allows employees to access and update their curricula vitae online with the Human Resources Department. To enable the different company departments to share the information on the Intranet, we have developed Mayanet, a system that makes documents management easier to publish on the Intranet. Thus, each department can build menus, documents and links and make online changes on the web page without the help of a developer.
"We started in beta version with Microsoft.NET and GeneXus.NET. The enthusiasm and support on the part of GeneXus staff made us choose this generator,", Bonilla said. "At the beginning it was tough because we did not know the tool, but now the whole development group is delighted with it," he added.
Currently, the Standard Fruit Systems Department is developing two other applications with GeneXus.NET generator -launched with GeneXus version 7.5- intended to manage available jobs and benefits to employees.
