The Universidad del Trabajo del Uruguay (Technical-Professional Education) has more than 100 schools all over the country. These schools teach a considerable variety of specialties, such as Building, Commerce, Mechanics, Electricity, Graphical Industries and Technological Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Thermodynamics, Computing and Tourism, among others.
In this scope, the caretaker’s management (pupils, inscriptions, absences, professors’ meetings, exams, certificates, passes, etc.) is as vital as it is complex. So, we had to develop a computing system to automate that process. The tool we chose for this development was GeneXus.
"GeneXus has allowed us to develop the system in a quick and secure way. Some changes that the users requested during the development process were done quite fluidly. We have obtained a reliable system that worked from the first day it was installed," remarked Eng. Alvaro de León, technical leader of this project.
The system, which is already installed in 30 schools, shows remarkable diminution in the cost and time management, as well as providing a high level of security and reliability. "It was also important that the system allow for quick adaptation from the operators, who learned, very quickly, how to use the application perfectly," de León noted.
The institution’s central offices today have a system that allows for maintaining the centralized tables (for example: employees, schools, courses) that can then be distributed in each school. Aside from this, they have a query system for the consolidated database. The next step will be to install the system in the remaining schools, and to implement the automatic data transmission via Internet, apart from consolidating them in the database. "The corresponding software for the automatic transmission and consolidation, without intervention of operators, has already been developed," informed de León.
"As a project for this year," he added, "we will propose Data Warehouse development, using the tools of GeneXus technology, which will allow, for first time, the possibility for UTU to count with rapid forms, reliable and flexible, to measure the results of its management."
