GXportal 4.3 is now available

13February/2007
GXportal version 4.3 has been released. Among other advantages it features higher content management power and the possibility of using Firefox for portal management and maintenance.

In a significant strategic shift, versions will now be released by platform. On this opportunity the new version will be released first for an Open Source platform: Java with MySQL. This will permit to install all the tool’s components on any Linux/Unix server. At the same time, it will be possible to use the Backend (that is, the portal management tool) of GXportal on Firefox, thus complementing the usability with Open Source applications. Next, version 4.3 for .Net platform with SQLServer will be released, and likewise until all the platforms currently available are covered. This is a way to speed up the release of versions.

One of the main features of GXportal 4.3 is its higher content management power.

With this new version it will now be possible to publish and consume RSS format contents. The publishing of contents using RSS permits portal users to update on the contents Publisher on a GXportlet without having to visit the page constantly.
Consuming contents using RSS enables the replication of third party contents in the portal.

The Contents GXportlet includes new features, such as publishing on a page the contents from an issue of a certain news list  (this permits to easily publish on our portal the contents sent); configuring the display of contents by date (example: displaying contents published in the last 10 days); configuring the display of the contents of certain Categories only; publishing contents automatically, without the need to select where a certain type of content needs to be published since the content is published automatically, among others.

A new role of GXportal (Frontend Content Manager) enables users that navigate the portal to edit contents directly from the page they are viewing. This permits a more rapid access for the publication of new content, and the modification or deletion of existing ones.

Among other new features, with GXportal 4.3 it is possible to create the filters desired for sending a new issue of a news list at the time of creating it. That is, it is possible to screen the list of users subscribed to the newsletter by country, role or gender. In the same way, it is also possible to define a description for each issue of the newsletter, which will be used as the subject of the mail received by the users subscribed.

With the purpose of facilitating the configuration of the server, with this version it is possible to configure, as an optional feature, the transfer of images using HTTP (it previously supported only FTP), permitting to establish a basic configuration quickly.

You may download the setup of the latest GXportal version, to make your work –creating, managing, and maintaining portals- easier than ever before.
