| | | How to: Create a category in GeneXus X |
| 02February/2009 |
When managing knowledge in GeneXus X by using categories, the information stored in the KB can be custom grouped. |
GeneXus allows you to organize your objects in folders, which is the typical hierarchical view.
In addition, you can organize objects in several ways simultaneously, by assigning "Categories" to them.
An object can belong to many categories and, in turn, categories can belong to other categories.
Accordingly, you can have several views of your KB depending on your needs.
For example, you can have:
• One category called "Objects to review" with subcategories by user, where each one contains a set of objects.
• A "Clients" category with all the objects related to clients (transactions, work panels/web panels, procedures).
• One category called "Tasks" with Wiki documents that specify the tasks to be performed by each developer.
• Categories for each functional area of the application, such as "Sales".
Classification of Categories
Categories can be classified as:
• Static Categories: They are created through the Category View and objects are added to it from the Properties dialog of each object.
• Dynamic Categories: The category content is automatically loaded with the objects that match certain search criteria. In this way, any object that is added or changed to meet this criteria will be shown as belonging to this category. For example, a category can be created with the objects containing a certain "string" or the objects with a given value in a certain property, etc. Dynamic categories are created through the Search window, and also from the Category View by specifying a Query or from the Properties in the Category Properties dialog.
