Companies from different sectors (banking, industry, laboratories, state-run) attended a work breakfast organized by Datalogic and Franklin Covey, last May 28. The event was sponsored by LATU Sistemas. |
Datalogic Software and Franklin Covey have created a strategic alliance to join forces and develop a system that helps companies optimize business results by incorporating strategic human resource management. Franklin Covey is a US-based international consulting firm geared to improve organizational effectiveness by considering human and organizational behavior.
Bettina Deicas, a Franklin Covey consultant, said that generally, when you ask a company what their most important asset is, the usual answer is "the people." However, deep inside, there does not seem to be a real conviction that investing in people and their potential and talent will result in a concrete ROI for the organization. This solution is made up of Datalogic's GeneXus-developed software and Franklin Covey's consulting services. It has been installed at Abitab (public service bills collection), Banca de Quinielas (lottery bank), Disco, Devoto and GĂ©ant supermarkets, and is currently being installed at Isbel, a telecommunications company. The software includes modules of Functional Cards, Performance Appraisal, Training Planning, Impact Measurement, and Key-Actor Satisfaction (organizational atmosphere, supplier and client satisfaction). In addition, the following new modules are being developed to be incorporated to the system: Recruiting and Selection, Recognition, Communication, and Career Planning.
Change, regardless of its nature, has always generated resistance. Ms. Deicas explained that this is why their software implementation includes workshops aimed at minimizing possible restricting forces. If you wish to implement a Performance Appraisal System, announcing it is not enough. "It is necessary to work on the parameters used for evaluation, and to tell others why you are using a particular system, what the benefits are, and how it will be implemented. It is also necessary to prove that the appraisal system chosen is objective, fair, and that it is not punishment-oriented, but focused on identifying opportunities for improvement that will help optimize personal and organizational development. This requires special work with the whole company and especially with those who will play the role of Appraisers," Ms. Deicas specified. Likewise, all modules are accompanied by a consulting process to better implement and profit from the systems. Jorge Arismendi, Director at LATU Sistemas, stressed how important it is for companies to have this kind of system, since it provides them with management indicators that ensure better company performance. He also highlighted the development of this software as a valuable national product with a potential value not only for local companies, but also in the international market.
