De Larrobla is one of the pioneers in implementing GXWiki in their work structure, and has been using it for over 2 years. In the interview below, Santiago Triñanes, product leader of
Bantotal* Internet Banking, tells us about their experience using this collaborative Web tool.
Overall, how would you describe the positive change resulting from the incorporation of GXWiki in the Internet Banking solution of De Larrobla (IBanking Wiki)?
At the external communication level it allowed us to communicate better with clients, and by clients we mean the people in charge of IBanking at each Bank. The current version of the product is updated through fixes published on the Wiki together with their documentation. Questions frequently asked by clients are saved in the FAQ, which allows us to refer to them without having to repeat the same answer. Many times we add information on the fly to an article to provide a single, updated answer on the Web.
In sum, the external Wiki provides clients, in the installation and maintenance stages, with many resources such as hardware/software requirements, manuals, FAQ, information about fixes, videos, installation tips, and a safe place to download and share documentation.
.
And what happened at the internal level of the organization?
All the relevant information generated is saved in a document that is published on the internal Wiki, which is accessible to the entire development and testing team. Instead of having a directory on the Web to store the data, we save it on the Wiki. Viewing is faster and it allows us to easily reorganize it according to the most relevant topics at any given time.
The IBanking Wiki homepage says that its main purpose is to manage and share documentation about Bantotal IBanking among all administrator members of the application. After using it for two years, do you think that the objective has been met?
Yes, definitely. In short, the Wiki is a fast means of publication and communication. We keep relevant information up to date, and what's more important, identified with name and last name. This makes it possible to have communication that is "alive", to call it somehow, and clients use it a lot as a resource and guide to use our product. The Wiki has proved to be a key asset for them in the installation stages of the project; for example, we're currently developing a project with the CES (Software Testing Center) of the Engineering School of the University of Uruguay, which involves automatic product testing and we're documenting it there. We're also studying a work methodology for software development called SCRUM, which is horizontally shared by all members of the work team.
As a means of communication it is safe, user-friendly and fast. Above all, it provides a line of communication that delivers results and allows for the reuse of answers given to clients, both to add documentation and to share it. If someone told me today that "we're not going to use the Wiki anymore", I think we would be in trouble. The communication opportunities that have been opened to us are a key resource, and the Wiki is a means of communication that has been assimilated into our organizational culture and optimizes our day-to-day work.
