Fonabec is a private trusteeship -formed by the following companies: Cemex, Comex, Telmex, Alfa and Pulsar- which awards scholarships and credit to Mexican students to attend middle and higher education.
Last year, it provided support to 2,400 students through an agreement with 32 universities throughout the country. Fonabec required a system to handle its critical management, which involves scholarship requests, follow-up on all the paperwork, all the existing information regarding students grades, donations, fund-raising campaigns, etc. Apart from the management system, Fonabec also needed to develop an institutional Web site.
The new Fonabec site is already in production (http://www.fonabec.org.mx) and the management system will be implemented in the coming weeks. At least 2,500 users (students, local committees, educational institutions, central administration) will have access to it through the Internet. "The solution was totally developed with the GeneXus.NET technology, including the BackOffice, where the Startweb product is used on the same platform," José Luis Melferber, Director of Rumble SRL, reported.
"As a member of the EAP (Early Adopter Program) for GeneXus.NET, ARTech, has once again made state-of-the-art technology available to us. This makes the development of our projects easier, thus allowing us to obtain quality products. Weve done this with the .NET generators," said Melferber.
Rumble S.R.L. is an Argentine company which has specialized in the use of state-of-the-art technologies and uses GeneXus as a strategic development tool. In April 2002, it set up a branch in Mexico. Its product, STARTweb is a full-Web CMS (Content Manager Server) developed with GeneXus for the Microsoft.NET platform -and also Java- used, for instance, by SpecialHosting.net in the United States, and by IMPSAT for the Argentine Association of Systems Leaders in Argentina.
"We are applying the distance development concept in this project, using Internet to the fullest for product installation, database reorganization, and development, with a powerful local contribution in planning and analysis," said Rumble's Director. "We have two teams that are currently working: a local one, focused on analysis, gathering, documentation and project management; and a remote one that is working on development, remote implementations, and visual design."
Moreover, the development made for Fonabec uses web services for making the dialog in StartWeb (backoffice) possible, and the management application that has been developed having more than 1,200 GeneXus objects.
