| | | From 1.0 :: Cybernet :: “We were the first to develop GeneXus on PC platform” |
| (03/08/2010-10:03) |
Cybernet has been part of Artech’s history from its very beginnings, and has accompanied the growth of the GeneXus Community all along. María Elena Riva – Zuccheli, Eliene Baliosian and Jorge Molieri tell us what the I GeneXus Meeting meant to them and the reasons for their bond with the Community after two decades. |
¿How did we come to use the first version of GeneXus? We were working for a Brazilian company that was in search for a business solution not in mainframe, but accessible for account executives at all branches. We had developed most of the application but still needed to inquire on something, so we ended up contacting a phone we found on the diskette. To our surprise, the one answering the call was Breogán Gonda himself (María Elena had been a student of his at the University) who invited us to a meeting, surprised at our having developed over 90 % without a prior demo.
In those years, the first developments done with GeneXus were run on IBM’s AS/400. We are most certain that we were the first to develop GeneXus on PC.
I GeneXus Meeting
From attendees at the Meeting we suddenly became exhibitors! We received a call from Breogán inviting us to tell everyone our experience, so we unexpectedly ended up sharing the stand with Luis Astray, Ramón Jacques and Mariano De Larrobla. But unlike them, who based their presentation on AS/400, we talked about our GeneXus experience with PC. Since then, we have been participants sharing our cases in over half of the Meetings.
The Community :: A Culture of Interchange
One of the most gratifying aspects in working with GeneXus is the Community, and the philosophy of sharing knowledge underlying it. All this leads to a powerful culture based on exchanging.
One of our initial experiences was a call for bids in Bolivia in 1993, for which we submitted a proposal. The RFP was for designing a customized ERP. The objective was way over our possibilities and we were eager to participate despite acknowledging the fact that we could not do it on our own. So, we decided to speak to Breogán, who suggested we contact Mariano De Larrobla, who in turn had other products to offer. We finally got together a consortium where every party contributed with its own values. We put up our Knowledge Base, a tool and the training part. And we finally were awarded the contract! That was one of the first experiences involving integrated Knowledge Bases and team work.
GeneXus Meetings
All GeneXus Meetings are refreshing and challenging experiences. It always happens that, when a novel technological issue comes up, we rely on Artech to do the research on the subject and present it all to the Community.
At Cybernet, we are practically closed during the three days of the event! We highly value the fact that the environment for sharing knowledge is promoted, and the trust generated in the interchange is empowered. That is the greatest enrichment of all … based on the exchange achieved. |
