GeneXus Day Japan 2011

(27/12/2011-13:47)
The meeting of Japan’s growing GeneXus Community attracted 350 people and was attended by Artech’s President, Mr. Breogán Gonda. At the event, the success stories of BPO Solution from Saison Information Systems and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries were presented, and WorkWithPlus was released in Japan.
GeneXus Day took place on December 5 in Tokyo.

The event was held at Sogetsu Hall, where more than 350 customers and prospects learned about the new developments of the GeneXus technology, shared experiences of more recent customers, and witnessed the release of WorkWithPlus for the Japanese market.

At the opening of the Event, Mr. Breogán Gonda introduced the origins and theoretical foundation behind the establishment of GeneXus. “Our objective was to be able to transform the system development problem into a math and logic problem, in order to systematize all the captured knowledge in a knowledge base, working with pure knowledge, regardless of the technology used at the moment” said Mr. Gonda during his presentation. Then he pointed out that: “Describing instead of programming is the paradigm we propose and to this end we've created GeneXus, whose main features include completeness, productivity (that may reach an increase of 2000%), universality and usability.”

GeneXus success stories in Japan: BPO Solution from Saison Information Systems and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

Mr. Kazushi Hosaka, Manager of the BPO Solution division at Saison Information Systems Ltd (local credit card) told his experience developing applications with GeneXus. His presentation titled “Why I chose GeneXus – Productivity, Quality and Assurance” gave full details of the reasons why he selected GeneXus and the results obtained in comparison with other technologies. The system, which is currently under development, is a payment operations outsourcing service. Mr. Kazushi explained how GeneXus has enhanced the quality of the service, in addition to improving operations and maintenance, which used to be more complicated and expensive with the legacy system that they had been using.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the first GeneXus user in Japan, was the company selected to close the presentation of success stories. The speaker, Mr. Kyoji Noda, Chief Engineer of IT Planning and Management Group, Yokohama Team for the sector of Machinery & Steel Structures Headquarters, told how GeneXus started to be used in his organization and presented the projects developed in recent years. One of the reasons that led them to use GeneXus in 2004 was that they foresaw a shortage of technical staff (IBM Host systems), and also because GeneXus enabled them to keep up to date with the advances in information technology in a more flexible and cost-effective way. At present, the HHRR management system is integrated with SAP and has achieved the following benefits:

·         Improved specification quality assurance
·         Reduction of the entire operation because a DBMS is not necessary
·         Extended tables have greatly simplified data operation
·         Simple language that can be easily maintained, and which makes it possible to share work and solve problems.
·         The technical staff quickly learns to use it because they only need to become familiar with the GeneXus language.

Introduction of WorkWithPlus in Japan

Near the closure of the event, Joaquín Alvarez from DVelop Inc. captured the audience's attention with his presentation titled “Work With Plus: Increase your Productivity in Web and Web Mobile Applications with GeneXus Ev1 and Ev2”. He also said that they are working on making the product available in Japanese and providing local support through GeneXus Japan.

For the official closure, Mr. Makoto Kawanishi, Sales and Promotions Manager at GeneXus Japan Inc. introduced the latest developments of GeneXus and gave the floor to Mr. Fumio Owaki, President of GeneXus Japan, who made the closing remarks.
