With Ramón Jacques :: Read the story of the first GeneXus user and watch the video of his presentation at the II GeneXus Meeting in 1991!
In 1988, thanks to Fernando Lazcano, I discovered what was said it would be GeneXus.
At that time, the first version hadn't been delivered yet, but I had been requested to program an AS/400 for a company I worked for back then (Barbieri & Leggire, Salto, Uruguay) and I had the chance to do it using this innovative technology instead of learning Cobol 400 or RPG. Up to that moment, I was programming in Visual Basic and DBase III Plus compiled with Clipper. That is, I was doing that until I laid my hands on GeneXus!
That's how I became the first GeneXus user, which in turn made me the first speaker of the Community from the 1st GeneXus Meeting up to the 5th, with the objective of sharing my experience using the tool.
My best memory from that time -the one that I'd like to proudly share with you- is that Breogán Gonda, Nicolás Jodal and Gustavo Proto themselves taught me the GeneXus courses. Who wouldn't want to have those GeneXus instructors today?!
Since then, my relationship with GeneXus and the Community has been very close; I feel the product as my own and have a deep friendship with its creators. In 1997 I created my own company, Soluciones, where we are 100% GeneXus. Needless to say, I have attended all the GeneXus Meetings with no exception, even when I was living in Mexico for work-related reasons.
Why didn't I miss a single GeneXus Meeting? The appeal of the tool’s continuing technological growth always makes me want to get up-to-date at the meetings, to know where they are now and where they are headed. Even so, every Meeting exceeded my expectations, so I'm already counting the days to attend the XX GeneXus Meeting to enjoy it and be surprised, as every year, with the growth achieved by the tool and its Community.
