¿What is BPMN?
It’s a graphical representation for modeling business processes. BPMN = Business Process Management Notation. More info on
Wikipedia.
What advantages does it provide?
Because it is a standard that has been adopted by most BPM suites and business process modelers, it gives all business analysts and developers a common language to represent the various workflows that they have to model. There's also another standard called XPDL that makes it possible to exchange diagrams between tools, which provides more portability to the created models. This notation is simple and easy to understand but, above all, it gives you an expressive power that makes process modeling an easy task.
What has been done in GeneXus?
GeneXus X integrated the
GXflow process modeler in the IDE, with the main purpose of providing easy integration of the developed applications into a Workflow process and making it possible to reuse the same programs that were used in other parts of the system, within the business processes and with no need to start by changing the programming in order to achieve this.
Now, in
GeneXus X Evolution 1, the Business Process Diagram –the object that makes modeling workflows possible– supports the BPMN notation, which gives it more expressive power, keeping it simple when it comes to modeling business processes.
This is how the new modeler looks like:
