GeneXus System in Java as ASP

(21/05/2002-00:00)
In-Style Software Inc, a GeneXus sub-distributor in St. Louis (United States) has its In-Style product already functioning with excellent performance in the ASP modality.
In-Style is an application developed with GeneXus for the apparel industry. Since October, 2001, Short Bark Industries (SBI), a Tennessee-based uniform and garment manufacturer has been running In-Style remotely using the Internet to communicate with the server which is located in St. Louis, Missouri.

SBI had acquired In-Style for helping them
manage the rapid growth in which the company, founded in 1995, is currently immersed. Initially, the product was installed on a local network (Local Area Network), but a complex database reorganization took place, which led to a testing of the changes through the Internet.

Although the client had been warned that the system will be probably slower when running over the Internet, John Baltz, an accountant for Short Bark Industries said that "the performance has not changed.  It is the same as it was when the database was local and the system was running on the LAN".

In-Style is a critical mission application, which has 3000 objects, and which is generated in Java with a three-tier architecture using
GeneXus version 7.5.
The ASP business model makes it possible to sell complex systems to companies that do not have the required infrastructure to provide support for such systems, Sergio Prusky, In-Style Inc Director, explained.

Uniform manufacturer SBI does not have a systems department; it has decided to use In-Style
remotely, using In-Style Software's data hosting services.
Sergio Prusky has reported that the data is, for backup purposes, saved in three different servers and a tape which is stored in a fireproof cabinet and sent to another location twice a week.

Technical information:  In-Style is a Win-form application generated in Java using GeneXus version 7.5.  The application is running on a Windows 2000 server with a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database.  Short Bank Industries is located in Tennessee and is connected to the Internet using a T1.  SBI has a factory located in Honduras that is also expected to use In-Style remotely using the Internet in an ASP mode.
