Problem: The Salkoff Laboratory, at
Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri generates a lot of information
-scientific publications and news- that must be regularly included in its web
site. This activity requires the assistance of a technician in charge of the
task.
Solution: The design of a web site in
only five days, by using GXPortal to enable researchers themselves to publish
information on the web.
The laboratory is focused on information on genetics and
handles a great deal of data related to its research topics as well as
publications made by its research team. With this new site designed by GXPortal,
information maintenance and update is done by Salkoff Laboratory's researchers
themselves.
"They have a listing of 200 publications from other
laboratories and 60 publications of their own. GXPortal solves the problem of
having to update all their data," explained Diego Prusky from In-Style Software
Inc. Researchers can now include their own publications and news on the web.
Besides, from the moment that this information is stored in a database,
information retrieval is easy by just using the search option.
Links to the Excel tables, from GXPortal, were also
included. These tables contain data about DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) sequences
that the laboratory's researchers save in the server. GXPortal has also made
things easier for researchers who, up until now, had to face a complicated
activity: the creation of order and contact forms.
