GXPortal has its own search engine -
GXPortlet "Search Tools"- that feature the following search options:
1- By keyword, searching on the content base.
In this
case the keywords entered by users are searched in all the content that has been
published in the portal. As a result, a list of the pages containing the
keywords is displayed, as long as the profile assigned to the user grants
him/her permission to access that content.
This option
is recommended when the portal handles a great deal of information published in
many pages, so users can find what they are looking for faster.
2- By page descriptions.
In this case the words entered
by the user are searched in the descriptions assigned to the portal pages. The
result returns a list of links to the pages containing the word entered.
This option is useful if the portal has a page
published for each product of the company, so the user can quickly access all
the product information.
3- By channel descriptions.
In this case the name
assigned to the channels is searched. Channels have the purpose of grouping
pages, so the result of this search is a list of links to the pages within the
channel.
As in the previous case, it may be useful to
use this search method when there is a channel assigned to each product. The
result of the search will display all the pages that show information about the
product.
In these last two cases, the results
will display the list of channels, and within it, all the pages that match the
search criteria.
Follow these instructions to use and configure the
GXPortlet:
1- Go to the page where you want to
show the Search Tools and select the design option (Option "Administration of
design and navigation ? Design pages -- Click on the page name)
2- Add a new sector in the area where
you want the searcher to be viewed, and select the option "Content searcher"
3- Under "General," in the GXPortlet
Search Tools, you'll find a property called "Type of search" that enables you to
choose whether to make the search on the content, the pages or the channels. The
rest of the property settings allow you to configure the searcher
design.
Examples:
EMI Music Mexico: search by channel descriptions
The
site of EMI Music Mexico has a content channel for each company's artist. Thus,
the searcher was configured to search the descriptions assigned to each channel.
In that way, when somebody visiting the EMI Music Mexico site writes an
artist's name in the searcher, the results display the list of pages ?in the
channel assigned to the artist- showing the artist's information.

GXPortal: search on the content base
In the case of the
GXPortal site the searcher is configured to search on the content published in
the portal. Therefore, if you write the word "Workflow," all the related content
published on the portal will be shown.
