Esther Nin and Guzmán Etchebehere, INSIS Directors,
presented their professional and business experience to year-end students of the
B.A programs in Management, CPA, International Studies and Economics at
Universidad ORT Uruguay.
Nin and Etchebehere, guest-speakers invited by professor
Enrique Kramer ? Management Academic Coordinator and Strategic Management
faculty member at Universidad ORT Uruguay, ? participated in sessions of a
course called Strategic Management and Competitive Strategy. The visitors not
only shared their company history and talked about the opportunities and
challenges that they are currently facing, but also invited students to "put
themselves in their shoes" as INSIS directors, and consider and evaluate
possible strategic and operation-related alternatives.
The directors presented students with a case study to work
with. A case study is a document that describes a company?s real situation, in
which a manager faces a problem that can be handled in different ways, and the
case is used as a basis for class discussion. Students play the role of decision
makers and defend their points of view taking into consideration the assessment
of the problem, the criteria and alternatives to be followed, and the generation
of a plan of action in order to face the problem with which they have been
presented. This teaching modality has been developed by the Harvard School of
Business and is becoming widely used by universities throughout the world.
